Description

William McDonough + Partners led the schematic design and master plan for this mixed-use residential and retail project at the gateway to San Francisco’s vibrant, transit-rich Castro District. Envisioned as a space where people and nature can flourish in the city, the design includes planted green spaces at each floor, exterior walkways to allow for social interaction, and gathering and activity spaces for residents. San Francisco’s mild climate and a high performance building envelope allow for comfort to be achieved through passive systems. The building’s massing allows for natural cross ventilation and maximum daylighting with exterior exposure on at least two sides of most units. A large grocery store at the ground floor will provide a much-needed retail outlet to the residents and the neighborhood, while encouraging walkability of the community.
