GUANGTANG CHUANGYE PARK WILL PLEASE THE PEOPLE OF LIUZHOU
Liuzhou Ribao (Liuzhou Daily), 26 May 2005, Page 1
Yesterday afternoon, Russell Perry, partner of the U.S. firm WM+P, presented the Guangtang Chuangye Park Master Plan at the conference room in the Liuzhou City Hall. Mayor Xian-Chun Chen, Party leaders Ai-Feng Liang, Shi-Ming Yen, Chun-Kan Zhen, and Jia-Ren Huang represented the people at this afternoon's presentation. Leaders from the Planning Department as well as experts of related fields also participated in the discussion.
Mr. Russell Perry is the project manager of the China Housing Industry Association (CHIA) Guangtang Chuangye Park sustainable demonstration project. He had previously visited the site twice and proposed a sustainable planning model for the region.
The China-U.S. Center for Sustainable Development was founded in April 1999 on the occasion of China Premier Zhu Rongji's visit to Washington, D.C. for the U.S.-China Joint Commission on Science and Technology. A Memorandum of Understanding forming the China-U.S. Center was signed by China and the United States in the recognition that our two countries have a significant impact on the economic, social and environmental future of the planet, and the time was right to create a positive agenda for business, government, universities and non-governmental organizations to work in partnership. Since 2003, Guangtang Chuangye Park Master Plan has been included in this initiative.
In more than ninety minutes of presentation, Mr. Perry explained the concept of the harmony between humans and nature, the balance between ecology and economy, and how sustainable design is able to achieve these goals. He later used simple and concise language to explain the concept: "to make the water of Liuzhou cleaner, to make the air of Liuzhou fresher, and to make the people of Liuzhou happier".
Mayor Xian-Chun Chen was very impressed and pleased by the presentation. He collected comments from all of the representatives and gave the project very positive feedback. It is his wish that WM+P will further perfect the design to express the ecological character of Liuzhou, to effectively define the land-use in the greater Liuzhou context, and to reflect the integrated traffic network of the region.
William McDonough + Partners, world famous architects, are the master planners responsible for the design of Guangtang Chuangye Park, are pioneers in the field of sustainable planning and architecture, and are also leaders in eco-effective architecture and community design. Its principal, William McDonough, is also an internationally well-known architect. Every project designed by WM+P attracts investment interests from corporations in the Forbes 500.
